United State of America announced the renewal of support of US$526Million to Tanzania for assistance in combating HIV/AIDS for the period of 2017/2018. Following that announcement which was issued on 18th May 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation would like to extend its profound appreciation and gratitude to the Government and People of the United States of America for assisting the Government and People of the United Republic of Tanzania in combating HIV/AIDS.
The United States and Tanzania have had a long and close history of partnership to improve local capacity in addressing HIV/AIDS. Tanzania has been the beneficiary of this kind of assistance for many years. The Ministry is delighted to note that, the renewed assistance will provide with HIV testing to approximately 8.6 million Tanzanians and provide treatment to 360,000 people who newly test positive, bring the total number of Tanzanian on HIV treatment to 1.2 million.
The Ministry counts this assistance as the outcome of our good bilateral relations which exists between the United States and the United Republic of Tanzania. We believe that, this renewed assistance will enhance the existing relations between our two countries. This assistance reflects the commitment by the US to combat this global scourge. We look forward to this cooperation.
